Now that you have completed your preliminary research, you are ready to write…
.
Your PSA Proposal.
.
Length: one page max. DUE early next class.
.
Your proposals will express your PSA ideas … and they should convince me to SUPPORT
and APPROVE your ideas.
.

Keep in mind:
Your PSA must explain/show why people should care about/do something about the
cause you have chosen.
Your job is to inform the public and convince people to support the cause.
Your PSA will increase empathy, raise awareness, decrease stigma.

Guiding Questions:
.
1. Which mental illness (or other worthy cause) will your PSA focus on?
.
2. PSAs generally inform the public of important information. What information do
you want the public to know? List 7-10 important things the public should know
about this illness in order of importance (most important information first… least
important is last).
.
3. Formulate a message for your PSA based on the three or four most important
things on your list.
.
4. Why is this message important? Why do you want to communicate this message
to the public?
.
5. How will the public benefit from your PSA? What is the purpose of your PSA?
.
6. What do you want to show the public?
.
7. What do you want the public to do as a result of your PSA?
.
8. How do you want to deliver your message? What medium and format will you
use? Explain why. What are the advantages of the medium and format to
communicate your message to your target audience?

PSA Brainstorming - T/I - thumbnail sketches
(Brainstorming provides evidence of your PROBLEM SOLVING, THINKING & INQUIRY and your understanding of the DESIGN PROCESS (testing, exploration, trying out ideas, testing out ideas etc).
.
- work out ideas, small thumbnail sketches, test out layouts: eg. where title/headline. where paragraph text will go, where image/s will go, where logo will go, contact information etc... what size will they be?
- make notes about what colour scheme you will use... see colour handouts for reference...
- test out expressive typography ideas... see expressive typography handout/s... can creative expressive typography help communicate the message of your PSA
- test out layout ideas... test out different layouts by exploring placement and size text and images...
- plan out type image/photo you will need... plan the photo... rule of thirds, camera angles, shot length... see photography handout
- plan any photoshop work required to create your image... plan out any retouching you need to do to edit your photos....
- your thumbnails are SMALL, FAST, ROUGH sketches to work out/test out design IDEAs and make creative project planning NOTES
- keep the MEDIA FORMAT in mind when roughing out your sketches... eg. a billboard and a has different proportions from a bus shelter for example...

- when you've worked out all the above... GET APPROVAL... proceed to shooting your photos and designing your approved ideas on the computer : )
